Hydraulic engineering projects

A derelict, condemned pumping station in ’s-Gravenzande was demolished in full and rebuilt at speed on an industrial estate. The time pressure, the surroundings and the technical feasibility made this a demanding project, calling for quick decisions with the authority, procurement and the contractor. Completed from engineering through to delivery within 8 weeks.

Project management for a dyke reinforcement of roughly 1.5 km near Wormerveer, including design, specification and drawings. Alongside the hydraulic engineering core, the project covered asphalt replacement, steel sheet piling, culverts and weirs, and measures for cables and pipelines. Coordinated communication with stakeholders about access while the crest was closed, and was responsible for the schedule, the milestones and the quality of the specification and drawings.

As project manager, coordinated the improvement of a framework agreement for hydraulic engineering, including updating the RAW system from the 2015 to the 2020 edition, with a leading role within the project team.

Project management during the preparation and construction of the follow-up projects at Spaarnwoude I and II for Rijnland: organised site meetings, liaised with the contractor and resolved bottlenecks on the spot. Handled communication between the various stakeholders, reviewed plans and change requests, contributed to design amendments and monitored progress and site safety. At Spaarnwoude I, also the point of contact for complaints from the surrounding area.

Led the construction of a polder pumping station for Rijnland, coordinating with large-scale works by third parties that caused delays. Adapted the design under time pressure when the intended pump turned out not to fit the prescribed prefabricated inlet chamber, and had a future-proof pump with surplus capacity fitted in time.
